World Cup Update
So after the endless speculation, I can reveal to you the actual squad numbers the players will wear out in South Africa. The most interesting ones are of course the ones where we aren’t sure who is going to start – David James has been handed the Number 1 shirt, which would suggest he is Fabio’s first choice goalkeeper, although he has previously said he won’t tell the players until the day before the USA match.
Peter Crouch is given Bobby Charlton’s No9, which might suggest he’s a starter, but interestingly Joe Cole has been given the number 11 shirt, and Gareth Barry has been given 14. Can we assume Barry might not be fit from that? I’m not sure.
Michael Carrick might have the most need to worry – he’s number 22 while Joe Hart is presumably third choice keeper wearing the number 23.
